Eco Gloves Review: Compostable, Disposable Gloves Keep You Sustainable & Germ-Free

This post is not sponsored. I received the products in this post as a gift from Eco Gloves in exchange for reviewing their products.

If your life has been anything like mine the past 7 months or so since COVID-19 hit hard, your daily activities have gotten quite a bit less sustainable.

I am consuming approximately 300% more sanitizer and disinfectant wipes than before I knew the word “coronavirus.” And while I’m not using gloves nearly as much as the sanitizers, I do find myself reaching for a pair occasionally for protection. I know many friends who are using gloves at gas pumps or other scenarios where lots of people are touching something and there is the likelihood of lots of germ spreading.

There are other areas of my life where medical-style gloves come in handy too. In a house with foster dogs, I find disposable gloves necessary for cleaning up certain types of messes. And occasionally Wes and I will need them for painting/staining projects as well.

As someone who cares very much about minimizing my ecological footprint and living as “zero waste” as possible, I often feel guilty about using disposable products like gloves and disinfectant wipes. But, the reality is that sometimes my commitment to the environment has to take a temporary backseat to my need to be safe, and to create safety for others.

However, I am excited to have found some eco-friendly disposable gloves that make me feel a lot better about pulling out a pair of gloves if needed!

When Eco Gloves reached out to me and let me know they wanted to send me some gloves to try, I was very excited. I hadn’t even thought to look for eco-friendly versions of the latex medical gloves I typically buy at Walgreens or Costco.

Eco Gloves sent me two of their products to try: a 100 pack of gloves and a single packet of gloves. They also sent me a discount code to share with y’all: Use code FAIRLYSOUTHERN for 10% off your purchase.

Here are my honest thoughts on the gloves after trying them out:

1. Eco Gloves are a sustainable option.

Eco Gloves are compostable, making them zero waste! This is my favorite thing about them. It is so awesome to not have to throw them in the trash and send them to the landfill. Instead, they can be composted and reused as good, fertile soil! This is a huge win.

The packaging is made from paper/cardboard and can also be composted or recycled.

Being able to compost these gloves and recycle the packaging assuages some of my guilt for using more disposable products during this pandemic!

2. Eco Gloves are a good alternative for someone with a latex allergy.

If you have a sensitivity or allergy to latex, Eco Gloves could be a healthier option for you, as they contain no latex.

3. The fit is different from typical latex gloves.

Before I received the gloves, I assumed the fit and texture would be similar to latex gloves. Not the case! The gloves are not stretchy, so you do need to make sure you order the correct size. They are thinner than latex gloves, which is not a bad thing–it just feels different! They are also transparent and look a lot like food service gloves.

I ordered a size medium, as that’s what I typically buy in latex gloves (I’m more of a small and Wes is more of a medium to large, but because they are stretchy we can usually get by with both using mediums). The medium in Eco Gloves is definitely way too big for me; next time I will order a small.

4. Eco Gloves are convenient for on-the-go situations.

Eco Gloves’ single packet offering is great to carry around in your purse, pocket, or car for emergency situations. I don’t think I would use them regularly just to try to keep a handle on packaging, but being able to have one conveniently on hand just in case is really great.

The boxed gloves are also incredibly convenient. I was shocked at how small the box is compared to the size of boxes for typical latex gloves! These gloves take up a lot less space than regular disposable gloves.

Would I Buy Eco Gloves Regularly?

Yes! I would absolutely buy Eco Gloves again the next time I’m running low on gloves. It’s really nice to have a compostable glove option to keep it zero waste while also protecting your hands from germs and icky situations.
