Electronic Holiday Cards: 5 Reasons to Make the Switch!

Electronic Holiday Cards: 5 Reasons to Make the Switch!

Happy Holidays, friends! If you’re like me, you are in full-on Christmas mode now that Thanksgiving has come and gone. One thing I love about this time of year is the sending and receiving of holiday cards. I have so much fun reading the cheerful wishes and seeing how people have changed and families have grown over the past year.

Two years ago, I made the switch from sending paper Christmas cards to sending an electronic card. I will never go back! Below are five reasons why I love electronic holiday cards. Featured throughout this post are e-holiday card designs that I love!

1. They are environmentally friendly!

This is ultimately why I made the switch. There is just no denying that e-Christmas cards are far more eco-friendly than their paper counterparts. The amount of energy you use to power up your computer to create your e-card is minimal compared to the trees, dyes, water, and energy that go into making paper cards, envelopes, and stamps. All of that paper use seems especially wasteful considering that your card recipients will keep the card for a maximum of a couple of weeks at best, though many will just toss them straight in the trash (or, hopefully, the recycling bin). Going electronic with your cards eliminates a lot of waste.

2. They are less expensive.

While not the initial factor that pushed me toward adopting e-Christmas cards, this is probably my favorite perk. E-cards are so much less expensive than paper cards–they can even be free depending on which website you use to create yours. For example, Paperless Post has free holiday card options in addition to cards that come with a small fee of $0.18 – $1.00 per card sent. That is way less than you will spend on paper cards, especially taking into account the cost of postage!

Some other e-card sites to check out are PunchbowlGreenvelope, Blue Mountain, JibJab, Hallmark, and 123Greetings.

3. They are easy.

Sending an e-card is so much easier and less time consuming than sending out paper cards. After you create your card, all you have to do is enter your recipients’ email addresses and press the “send” button. There is no lag time as you wait for your card to be produced and shipped to you.  There is no time spent stuffing envelopes, affixing stamps, licking seals, and trekking to the post office. And, your card is delivered immediately! That is great news for those of us who are procrastinators or constantly behind on our holiday to-do list.

4. They are attractive.

As you can see from the cards featured in this post, you don’t have to sacrifice on style when you go electronic with your cards! E-holiday card designs are just as attractive as paper designs, and many sites even send them with an envelope that opens to reveal the card inside. There are even features available that allow you to pick the color/design of your envelope liner!

5. You can spread the cheer further.

Because paper cards require physical resources, money, and time, I sometimes felt like I needed to limit my list of recipients. That restrictiveness has lifted now that we send electronic cards. It is so easy to send our card to whomever we wish–friends, coworkers, family members, and even acquaintances with whom we want to build a relationship! I love that our well wishes extend further.
